My Friend

From day one, there has always been you and I
Through thick and thin, in the long run, side by side
When I would fall- you'd pick me up and wipe my eyes
Hug me tightly and tell me not to cry

I'd stand tall, shoulders back feet planted firmly, I'd stride
Honored to just have known you
I can walk the walk and talk the talk better than all others
Pat them on the backs when they do well, be there for my brothers
This is what you taught and I learned as natural as birds having feathers
Be there for my family whenever they need- always be able to deliver
And I sucked it all In - watched your every move for you are my mother
And when you thought I was sleep and tucked in my covers
I was....But sometimes I would watch you sleep and tell you how much I loved you and I would never leave you...my decree - til the end
I'm lucky I could have a mother as wonderful as you MY FRIEND
